The Brain Machine

Mindset

Here’s your brain, the powerful piece of machinery that controls and coordinates your body’s activities by processing sensory information and issuing commands. Beyond regulating vital functions such as heartbeat, breathing, and digestion, it also manages your movement, thinking, learning, and memory.

And because the brain is responsible for how you experience and interact with the world, your mind (and mindset) is constantly being shaped and adapting to your external environment.

Layers of the Mind

Mindset

Now the mind is made up of 4 layers, which include your conscious, preconscious, subconscious, and unconscious mind. In a nutshell, your:

Conscious mind is your current awareness, thoughts, and emotions.

Preconscious mind contains information that isn’t in your immediate awareness, but can be easily brought into consciousness, like recalling a recent memory.

Subconscious mind stores memories that influence your thoughts and actions without you even being aware of them, such as habits and learned skills.

Unconscious mind contains deep-rooted memories, desires, and impulses that are inaccessible to your conscious thought, but significantly shape your emotions and actions.

So why is this important? By understanding these layers of consciousness, it gives you more self-awareness about how impactful past experiences and hidden influences actually shape your overall quality of life.

The Behavioral Bridge

Mindset

The great news is that because your emotions, thoughts, and behaviors are all connected, this means you have way more control over shaping your future (than you think). With the ability to identify negative patterns of thought like:

  • "I'm not good enough"
  • "Nothing ever goes right for me"
  • "I always make mistakes"

You can train your mind and modify how you emotionally respond and act because behaviors are essentially the bridge between your mind and your reality. On a fundamental level, by strengthening new and healthier neural pathways in your brain, you can develop lasting positive changes to your thinking and behavior, which essentially change your life for the better.
